Digital Technology is an exciting and diverse subject encompassing robotics, 3D printing, codeing, animation, graphics, game development, web-design, film, photography, broadcasting and publishing. Students participate in a broad range of practical and theory based units which encourage them to explore and analyse issues, trends and development within the world of digital technology, whilst stretching and challenging their own ideas of what is possible.
Students have the opportunity to produce a wide range of digital technology products including 2D printed designs, 3D models, interactive content for the web, videos and digital animations. Photography starting at Year 10, provides students with opportunities to explore visual communication in a creative way.
The focus in Digital Technology in junior and middle school is the Design Cycle, a process integral to creative industries. Students learn to use the “tools of the trade” within this process to generate creative solutions to realistic problems, much the same as if they were already working within the Digital Technology industry. In addition, students learn how people and technology are inter-related, how to make sure they use technology safely and securely, and the ethical responsibilities we have as digital citizens.
Internet Safety Education
Salisbury High School delivers a computer-based Internet safety program to all multimedia students equips students with the knowledge and skills to allow them to make informed decisions about their use of technology, minimise risks of internet and mobile technology misuse, provide an understanding of the implications of cyber-bullying and harassment, and give them the ability to use new and emerging technologies with confidence and in a safe manner.
